 European Tour 2011 |
| Further to our information evening on Wednesday 9th September 2009, we are proposing to organise an expedition for Scouts and Explorer Scouts to Europe during the 2011 school summer holidays. |
| Our intention is to tour Europe by train – or to use the technical term, Inter Rail – visiting up to eight countries, as many cities and finishing with a short stay in Disneyland Paris. We have approx. 24 places available for up to 8 adults and 16 Scouts or Explorer Scouts. To be eligible, you must be at least 12 years old on the date of departure. Due to the nature of our tour, the dates require to be a little bit flexible; however our outline intention is for the tour to be for 2-weeks between Saturday 2nd and Saturday 16th July 2011. |
The itinerary is yet to be finalised; however a sample tour would include Amsterdam, Munich, Vienna, Rome and Paris spending 2-3 days in each. Accommodation would be in youth hostels or similar or where appropriate on sleeper trains maximising the time available in each country/ city. It is difficult to provide an exact cost at this stage as prices for ferries, trains and youth hostels are generally not available so far in advance; however we have priced the tour as accurately as possible and have set a price cap of £1300 per person inclusive of travel, accommodation, food, attractions and insurance. We will be offering opportunities to reduce this price through a number of fundraising projects; however you should note the cost above as this (once confirmed) is how much you will have to commit to paying should your child not be able to participate in the fundraising. The cost will be paid by way of a £60 non-refundable deposit followed by 16 monthly payments of £40 totaling £700 with the final £600 to be fundraised/ paid by end of March 2011. |
| To help us achieve our target of £600 per person or £14,400, we need as much help as possible therefore we propose to establish a fundraising committee of willing parents to generate new ideas and implement those we already have.
